Shopping malls | Real-time occupancy monitoring

The people counting radar has wide people counting area and can be installed at wide entrances that shopping malls usually have, so fewer sensors are needed to cover the entrance. Sidewall or angled ceiling mounting provides more flexible installation options. Real-time occupancy reports helping to track the number of visitors inside.

Real-time people counting systems for shopping malls help measure visitor footfall traffic and control the occupancy level of premises. You can get both visiting statistics and monitor occupancy in real-time mode. Information from the SensMax TAC-B sensor is crucial for saving on the rent costs and planning sales and marketing activities according to traffic trends.

Real-time occupancy reports allow automating heating and ventilation schedules according to the number of people on the premises.

Using radar type sensors for footfall tracking

SensMax TAC-B people counting radar sensors use the newest mmWave technology for footfall tracking. This technology offers more benefits comparing to standard people counting systems:

The sensor has a 100m2 people counting area tracking up to 10m range at 120° viewing angle. This feature allows counting people at the shopping mall entrances using only one sensor per entrance, reducing hardware costs.

  • Sidewall or angled ceiling mounting gives you more installation options and fits most of the entrance types.
  • The sensor supports up to 5 counting lines and zones within the footfall counting area to detect movement direction.
  • The mmWave radar technology is 100% GDPR/Privacy law compliant, and the sensor detecting people without filming.
  • For advanced projects, there is an option to integrate the people counting radar sensor into any 3rd party reporting system, reading the people counting data directly from the sensor using MQTT protocol or API data export from SensMax cloud reporting portal.
  • The sensor uses a standard WiFi internet connection for data delivery to the server in real-time mode.

SensMax TAC-B mmWave radar people counting sensor should be installed at least at 2.5-3m height. You can set up the sensor on a sidewall, back wall, or ceiling with a slight downward tilt using an adjustable bracket. It helps to aim the sensor to the area where you need to count people.

How SensMax TAC-B mmWave people counting radar sensor work

SensMax TAC-B people counting radar delivers accurate footfall statistics to the server in real-time using standard WiFi or WiFi Enterprise connections. In the case of internet connectivity problems, the sensor will record data to an internal SD card. Once connectivity is restored, the sensor will deliver all information to the server automatically.

SensMax cloud reporting portal contains a list of ready-to-use reports. You can customize the reports according to your needs for every sensor or a group of sensors. There are real-time occupancy reports, as well. You can monitor occupancy per floor or an entire shopping mall in real-time.

The sensor supports direct data reading from it using the MQTT protocol. Another option is to export data from the SensMax cloud using API. Both options allow using the sensor in any custom integration with any 3rd party reporting platform. There is an additional option for real-time notification sending to a mobile phone using Telegram messenger. This feature is useful for queue management projects where it is needed to monitor people queue on the fly and react to problems immediately.
