Real-time Wi-Fi/Ethernet gateway for wireless people counters and survey buttons with instant data transfer, backup memory, and MQTT integration.

SensMax SMX TS Real-Time Data Gateway

The SensMax SMX TS real-time data gateway is the central communication hub for SensMax real-time people counting sensors and real-time survey buttons. It collects data from connected sensors by radio channel and sends it to the online reporting portal through Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

SMX TS is used when visitor counts, occupancy data or customer feedback must be available immediately in dashboards, alerts or third-party systems. It supports real-time data transmission, MQTT integration and backup memory for situations where the internet connection is temporarily unavailable.

The gateway is suitable for retail stores, shopping malls, offices, public buildings, washrooms, venues, transport hubs and other locations where real-time monitoring is needed from wireless SensMax sensors.

How the SMX TS Gateway Works

SensMax real-time sensors send counting or feedback data to the SMX TS gateway by radio channel. The gateway then forwards the data to the SensMax online portal through Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Unlike scheduled data collectors, the SMX TS gateway is designed for immediate data delivery. This makes it suitable for live occupancy monitoring, real-time people counting dashboards, instant customer feedback and time-sensitive facility management applications.

If the internet connection is temporarily unavailable, the gateway stores sensor data in its internal memory and sends it to the server when the connection is restored.

Ethernet, Wi-Fi and MQTT Integration

SMX TS supports Ethernet and Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz connectivity. Ethernet has priority when the RJ-45 cable is connected. If Ethernet is not available, the gateway can use the selected Wi-Fi network to connect to the internet.

For integration projects, SMX TS supports MQTT data transfer. This allows people counting and feedback data to be connected with dashboards, smart building platforms, IoT systems, BI tools and other third-party software.

The gateway can be configured through its local settings web page. Users can manage connected sensors, network settings, server settings, MQTT settings, system parameters and gateway status.

Compatible Sensors and Devices

SMX TS gateways are used with SensMax real-time wireless sensors and compatible display devices. The selected gateway version must match the radio range class and frequency of the connected devices.

A single SMX TS gateway supports up to 20 connected sensors. For larger sites, several gateways can be used depending on layout, sensor quantity and radio coverage.

Real-Time Applications

SensMax SMX TS is suitable for projects where live data is more important than periodic reporting.

  • Retail stores and shopping malls for live visitor flow and occupancy monitoring.
  • Public washrooms for usage-based cleaning schedules and service alerts.
  • Corporate offices for real-time room, floor or building occupancy data.
  • Libraries and public buildings for visitor flow monitoring and service planning.
  • Events and venues for live crowd level monitoring and operational decisions.
  • Transport hubs for passenger flow monitoring and immediate response planning.
  • Customer feedback systems for real-time survey button data from service points.

Business Benefits

SMX TS makes wireless people counting and feedback systems suitable for real-time operations. Facility managers can see current visitor levels, monitor live occupancy and react faster when traffic changes during the day.

Real-time data helps teams plan cleaning, staffing, service response, queue management, safety procedures and space usage based on actual visitor activity. The gateway also supports integration with third-party software, making it useful for projects where people counting data must be connected to a wider building, retail or analytics system.

  • view visitor flow and occupancy data in real time;
  • connect wireless sensors without installing data cables to each counting point;
  • use Ethernet or Wi-Fi depending on local network availability;
  • send people counting data to external systems via MQTT;
  • keep data during temporary internet connection loss;
  • scale the system with LR or SLR gateway models.

Example in Action

A shopping mall installs D3 TS people counting sensors at entrances and washrooms. The sensors send data by radio channel to SMX TS gateways located inside the building. The gateways forward visitor counts to the online reporting portal in real time.

The operations team uses live dashboards to see occupancy levels, adjust cleaning schedules, identify busy periods and manage service response. If the internet connection is interrupted, the gateway stores data locally and uploads it later when the connection returns.
